Here at Out and About Healthcare we love Christmas time! As a family-owned company, Christmas to us is all about giving and appreciating the time spent with loved ones! We all love receiving presents, and buying gifts for others, but what about giving back to the community as a whole? For some, this can be the hardest time of the year, and we believe giving back is the most important part of the Christmas season.
Have you always wanted to give back to your community but you aren’t sure where to start? We have put together a list of ways you can spread the love this Christmas. Stay tuned!
1. Volunteering at Charity stores
Volunteering is one of the best ways to give back to the community over the busy Christmas period. Go down to your local Vinnies, Salvation Army, Mission Australia, or your local Op shops, and offer a helping hand. Not only is this a gesture of kindness, you will feel better within yourself being able to connect with your community and assist the less fortunate. To apply to be a volunteer, just head online and fill out the Volunteer Application Form!
Whether you are down the Main Street, at work, or at your local supermarket, something as small as a simple smile can make someone’s day. Just a quick fact, each time you smile your brain feels really happy and activates the release of feel-good hormones! Spread some holiday cheer this Christmas with a smile.
3. Pack Stockings for the homeless
For most people Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but for some, this is not the case. In Australia alone, 116,000 people were experiencing homelessness on the night of the Census. This is a harsh and sad truth, but YOU can help make a difference this Christmas! All you will need is a stocking, and some goodies to fill it with. We would recommend some practical necessities such as toiletries, and you could add some treats too! This is a small act of kindness that can impact a life in a positive way
4. Host a food or toy drive
This is a great way to connect with people, and help bring your community closer. Spend a day baking, or have a good ol’ Australian BBQ and enjoy giving back this Christmas. Getting involved with your community can be a very fun and rewarding experience, as well as an opportunity to help out those who are less fortunate in our community.
If you have any photos of you giving back to the community this Christmas please forward them to us.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Love, the team at Out and About Healthcare xx
