What To Look For When Buying a Mobility Scooter

Posted on

Picking out a new mobility scooter can be a pretty daunting task. There’s just so much to choose from! Not every mobility scooter is going to suit your individual needs, so it’s important to know what to look for when picking out your new mobility scooter. So we’ve broken it all down for you to make buying your new mobility scooter just that bit easier!

#1 Your Needs

If you like to get out a lot, go to the park, play golf, or like to travel there is different products to suit your needs

Every individual is different. Our typical day and personal struggles are all going to vary. Which means your individual needs are going to be vastly different from the next person. So it’s important to take this into account when picking out your new scooter. Whether you need it for longer distances, you’re fond of travelling, or your typical day takes you over less flat terrain. Even what you like to do for fun! There are many different things to consider when on the hunt for a new ride! The following things are what you need to look out for.

#2 Size

The Vita X is one of our larger semi-all-terrain scooters, which you can even use as a golf buggy!

One big thing to consider is the size of scooter that you might need. If you’re fond of travelling, or need to be able to pack it away in your car often, then you may need a smaller portable scooter like the Heartway Brio 4 or Verve rather than something larger like the Vita Sports. But if you need something heavy duty, sturdy and semi-all-terrain, there are a range of larger scooters to choose from, like the Vita X.

#3 Motor Size

Like to play golf, often travel long distances or go up steep hills? You will want a scooter with a more powerful motor.

Motor size is a pretty big thing to consider. We offer a range of different scooters with different motor sizes to suit everybody’s needs. You may need a larger, more powerful motor if you’re going longer distances or traversing more difficult terrain!

#4 Suspension

Our Heartway Aviator X has a double wishbone suspension for a comfortable semi-all-terrain ride.

Good suspension is something that you need to look for, especially if you’re traversing different kinds of terrain! Some of our products feature top notch suspension. This helps ensure you can ride in complete comfort, no matter where your day brings you (within reason, of course)!

#5 Distance

If you like to spend a lot of time getting out and about locally, a mobility scooter like the Heartway Mantra which has the capacity to go further is a better choice than a smaller scooter.

Knowing what kind of distance you can travel on a single charge is incredibly important. Especially if you like to get out a lot! If that’s the case, and you need something that can take you far, making sure the scooter you pick out can travel a large distance is pretty important! When comparing products, ensuring that distance and battery size are larger is a great idea. Which brings us to our next point!

#6 Battery Size

The distance you get out of your scooter relates to your battery size. So if you like adventures, make sure to get a battery that can go the distance.

When buying a new mobility scooter, distance alone isn’t the only thing you need to look at when comparing products. Ensuring that the battery size suits your needs as well is incredibly important! Get the maximum out of your product by picking one with a larger battery.

#7 Weight Capacity

We are all different, and so are our scooters! Ensuring that you pick out a scooter suitable for your size and weight ensures that you are comfortable and that your scooter runs smoothly.

#8 Public Transport

While public transport in Australia has fantastic accessibility, a large scooter is going to be difficult to travel with on the train, and some scooters are too large for the bus.

If you are catching the bus or train a lot, it’s important that you make sure your scooter can be taken with you. Trains will allow most scooters, but if you have a larger scooter it’s best to check ahead first. Unfortunately not all buses can accommodate all scooters, so if you’re taking the bus you may find you want a small portable scooter like the Heartway Verve instead.

We hope that we’ve made things a little easier for you and helped you make the right choice when buying your new mobility scooter. If you have any further questions, why not enquire and chat with our friendly team?
