We all have the need to use public transport at some point. But can you take a mobility scooter on the bus? The short answer, for Translink, is yes.
However, it's not quite as simple as that. Translink are doing their best to provide accessibility throughout their services, and they're generally doing a great job of it. But this process takes time. Most buses will have a ramp and space for a smaller mobility scooter, especially the newer buses.
As with other forms of travel, the best course of action to take before heading down to the bus stop is to call the bus company and ensure that they can accommodate you. There is a list of the bus companies in Brisbane here.
If you want to take your mobility scooter on the bus, we recommend using a portable scooter. Luckily, we have a great range of portable mobility scooters to suit your needs. Making it wonderfully easy to jump on the bus and head down to wherever you want to go!
Trains and trams in Brisbane and surrounds also all offer accessible transport. However, there are of course guidelines set by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to consider before travelling on public transport with your mobility device. You can find the relevant information on any particular product in the product specifications on our website.
Taxi services all over also all offer accessible taxis. However, for safety reasons if you are taking a mobility scooter with you you will be required to vacate the scooter and sit in one of the seats instead.
We hope that we have been able to answer your question sufficiently! If not, just make sure you contact your bus company, or Translink. They will be able to give you the most comprehensive information on travelling with them with your mobility scooter or wheelchair. If you'd like to have a chat about our portable range of products, why not give us a call and speak to our friendly team?
