The Royal Queensland Show began in 1876 in Bowen Park, a public holiday was declared and the event attracted 17,000 people. Ever since, the colossal event has been a yearly success, with Queenslanders counting down the days until they can bite into a Dagwood Dog. From just $20, you can score your ticket to the Ekka, where you will have access to free endless shows, live music, and comedy acts.
The RACQ Animal Nursery will give you the opportunity to watch baby chicks hatch in their incubators. You will also be able to sit in your Companion wheelchair and cradle the spring chickens in your hands, getting to know our friendly, feathered friends. Make sure you pet and feed the lovable animals at the nursery, which include calves, lambs, ducklings, chooks, goats and piglets!
The Ekka is also home to a legendairy milking barn, where you will be taught how to milk a cow! Don't miss out on the chance to have Nambour State High School educate you on how milk and butter are made, also highlighting 6 different milking demonstrations. They will also give you the chance to put your new knowledge to the test, and offer you the opportunity to try milking a cow yourself. Verge Garden Display
If petting the piglets and handling the chickens isn’t your cup of tea, you may be a green thumb! As you head towards The Old Museum on your Brio, the breathtaking Verge Garden displays will be sure to catch your eye. The displays will provide you with endless inspiration for your garden at home. To celebrate the true art of floristry, The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland host annual floristry competition at the Ekka.
